Why did Tableau change their pricing model / Subscriptions ?

Tableau is focused on helping people see and understand data. Tableau changed there pricing and packaging to provide customers with all the capabilities they need to support their entire analytics workflow.

New customers will no longer be able to purchase Tableau Desktop, but will be purchasing the Tableau Creator offering which includes Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep and a Creator license of Tableau Server or Tableau Online.

Tableau Desktop Personal is no longer available for purchase.

Lets See what are the different Subscriptions Options :
1. For Individual 

For individual Subscription Tableau Creator offering which includes Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep and a Creator license of Tableau Server or Tableau Online ($70USD/user/month billed annually)

No Tableau Explorer , Tableau Viewer Subscription.

2. For Teams & Organizations

Tableau offering 2 type of Subscription for For Teams & Organizations

I. On-Premises or Public cloud Deployment

4. For Academic Student :

One Year Free Subscriptions For Tableau Desktop And Tableau Prep with two different Key (**Student ID Proof Required to upload). So if you apply same tableau desktop in tableau Prep then you will get an error "This product key doesn't apply to Tableau Prep. Enter a different product key or contact your Customer Account representative."
